visie

  • Design is about integrating different worlds. Creative design connects the clashing discourses of stakeholders involved.     Kees Dorst
  • By learning to frame issues as trade-offs among design variables, one can see underlying patterns that previously had not been visible – and thereby make more intelligent analyses, choices, and commitments than would otherwise be possible.       Robert Keidel
  • Integrative thinking is to see the relation between the strategic level of the firm, of the design of the organization and its operational aspects.       Hans Strikwerda
  • Many problems are rooted in inter-dimensional conflict that is not understood.       Stafford Beer

OVER DE NOODZAAK VAN PARTICIPATIEF WERKEN:

  • A systems approach begins when first you see the world through the eyes of another.      Charles West Churchman
  • De wijsheid zit in het systeem zelf.      Luc Hoebeke
  • Designing is fundamentally a social process.       Kees Dorst
  • Rather than to solve problems it is clever to dissolve them.      Stafford Beer

OVER HET GEBRUIK VAN THEORIE EN MODELLEN:

  • The problem is not the absence of a theory of organizations, but the absence of a meta-theory, identifying the assumptions underlying existing theories in-use and thus explaining the boundaries of such theories.      Hans Strikwerda
  • The map is not the territory.      Gregory Bateson
  • A model is neither true nor false, it is more or less useful.      Stafford Beer

OVER HET ONTWERPPROCES:

  • Designing is not about problem solving, as is often thought, implying that the solution space is already determined by the problem definition, but it is about opening up, exploring new territories, reframing and imagining things that do not yet exist.      Caroline Hummels
  • Designing an organization is as much a mental exercise in understanding an organization, as it is about creating an organization.     Hans Strikwerda
  • The interpretation of the design problem and the possible solutions it can lead to cannot be separated. They are Siamese twins.      Kees Dorst
  • Design is a moral profession, because there are always side effects to what we do.      Kees Dorst

OVER HET BELANG VAN ORGANISATIEONTWERP:

  • Designing is perfectly suited to play an active role in societal transformation, since designing is about localising (making a matter concrete), questioning (reflection on its quality) and opening up (expanding its sense).      Richard Sennett
  • The transformation economy requires engagement and empathy, respect based on a horizontal collaboration in which all stakeholders are equal, but not identical, and valuable in their own way. Caroline Hummels

OVER MANAGEN:

  • Management essentially is about meaning.      Luc Hoebeke
  • Managing as design.      Buchanan
  • Design professions have much to offer managers who are looking to increase both the logic and beauty of the organizations that they create through their day-to-day problem solving.      Boland & Collopy
  • Don’t ask how you should manage, but ask what you are doing while managing.       Ralph Stacey
